NBC Universal is a multinational mass media and entertainment conglomerate, that needs no introduction. They came to Crowdlinker with a goal to reimagine the possibilities of their online distribution strategy by introducing new TVOD offerings. We began our partnership with a complete overhaul of their ecommerce store, digitalmoviedeals.com.

NBC wanted to provide their customer base with alternative ways of purchasing and redeeming content, competing against the likes of Disney+ and Netflix. With no internal product capacity available, they needed the help of a multifaceted team that they could trust to realize their build from start to finish.
Digitalmoviedeals.com required a lot of manual effort to handle payments, calculate tax, and manage the growing content catalog. Additionally, the site lacked any company branding.
If they were to achieve the expected revenue from their current product offering and stand out against fierce competition, NBC would need to increase brand awareness, and reduce the need to micromanage site functionalities.
Through discovery we were able to highlight key issues that were affecting the company. We needed to understand where they were spending too much time, what could be streamlined, and the limitations of their current API.
Our developers opted to leverage an existing e-commerce system, so that we could fulfill NBC’s project needs at a fraction of the cost quoted by other vendors.
NBC wanted the ability to create additional customizable storefronts, with the capacity to include partner branding. To facilitate this, we rebuilt the site using the Shopify Plus platform whilst implementing a custom coded solution for easier customization.
With Shopify’s integrated support features we could remove the need for maintenance, tech support, or heavy management, and were able to develop a storefront that could compete against the likes of Netflix and Disney+.

The autonomy given by the new site has reduced dependencies for team members, seen a reduction in problems, and given way to a significant increase in transactions. With the new site experiencing accelerated transactions, this has become one of NBC Universal’s primary TVOD online destinations based on transactions and demand.
